5-Four
10” tall, 8” wide, 5” deep (Freestanding)
I think this is one of my best pieces and I would like to do more like this. More than my other pieces, this really represents assemblage art. It is art comprised of items that are not necessarily art on their own. The rusty door knob and the ice pick handle have had a long life and could probably tell some great stories. The oak wood was once a step of a circular staircase. The number “4” is cut from an I.D. tag that fell off of a semi truck. I found it along the side of the road. The clear marble was the last item added, and I love the shadow it throws onto the number “4”. Most of my pieces evolve from the original sketch. This one took a lot of turns. The only item that actually appeared in my sketch is the number “4”. I had originally intended to use a bunch of rusty nails wrapped in rusty wire, a ceramic, cold water handle, and the letter “D” instead of the “5”.
