Making Banana Bread
I am a designer by trade. During the quarantine, many of my friends and coworkers lost their jobs. I was worried for them, and worried that I might lose my job as well. I was fighting a certain amount of depression and a whole lot of boredom. I drank some and I ate some, but what I needed was something to do with my hands and my mind. When the quarantine eased up, I started going to resale shops, garage sales and estate sales. This was fun, it got me out of the house and out of my wife’s hair. In the meantime, my wife needed something to do with her hands as well. She started making banana bread. A lot of banana bread!
I found something to do with the items I was finding at resale shops and estate sales. Assemblage Art. Some call it Upcycled Art, or Found Art. Spending a lot of time on Pinterest, I discovered Assemblage Artists like Christopher Bales, Kass Copeland, Dianne Hoffman, Beka Brayer and many, many others. I really enjoy their artwork and it inspired me to create my own.
Now my wife and I have a standing date every Saturday; we visit resale shops and estate sales together. She looks at furniture, colored glass, salt & pepper shakers, and ceramic figurines while I look for broken or rusty junk! Often, she’ll find something cool and point it out to me. We’re a great team. Even if I never sell a piece of artwork, I won’t mind. We are having a lot of fun together!
Thanks for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy looking at my artwork, as much as I enjoyed creating it. If you would like to purchase something, just send me an email at ckmohn@mac.com
