Keep Pushing

23” tall, 7” wide, 7” deep (Freestanding)

Most of these materials were purchased at a church rummage sale. I used several pieces of wood trim samples and a round foot from a discarded sofa. Accents include a drawer pull, a brass door knob with a beautifully intricate pattern on it, and a brass handle from an old wood stove. I also added some metal beads here and there which add some very cool shadows. There’s also a couple of metal pieces from a “coaster brake” like the kind I had on my bike when I was a kid. I called this one “Keep Pushing” for a few reasons. At 23” tall it pushes upward, taller than any other freestanding sculpture I’ve created. Three of the accent pieces are items that you would normally “pull” so I thought that added some irony. Lastly, I had to push myself to complete it within a month in order to submit it for a friendly Instagram challenge. The challenge was to create a monochromatic sculpture. The work of Louise Nevelson was my inspiration. Louise Nevelson | Hunter Museum of American Art
