The Girl in The Clock

17.5” tall, 15.5” wide, 7” deep (Wall hanging)

I found this old clock body at a barn sale. A family of mice had made it their home. I had to soak it, disinfect it, and paint it inside. The outside shows a lot of wear and tear, but I still love it. It has so much character. I embellished it with the top of another clock to give it more height and provide a backdrop for the metal animals. The pillars seem to line up perfectly. The glass door is not original to this clock, I took it from another clock, and added the brass ring. There is a circus going on just outside of the little girl’s view. She can see out but is still sheltered from the world outside her window. It took a long time to collect all of the right metal animals to create this menagerie on top of the clock. The elephants on the sides are souvenirs from the Indiana Dunes State Park. I am not sure why they would have offered elephants as souvenirs. There are train tracks running through the park providing transportation to and from Chicago, so it is possible that a circus could have stopped there. Maybe around the time of the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago.
